Now Offering Iron Infusion Therapy in Metro Detroit

What Is Iron Infusion Therapy?

Iron infusion therapy is a medical treatment that delivers iron directly into the bloodstream via an intravenous (IV) line. It’s most often recommended for individuals diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia who haven't responded well to oral iron supplements or who require more rapid replenishment of iron stores.

At purelyIV, our iron infusion therapy uses iron sucrose, a trusted and well-tolerated form of IV iron. This treatment is delivered by licensed nurses under provider supervision — right in the comfort of your home, office, or hotel anywhere in Metro Detroit.

Why Iron Is So Important

Iron plays a critical role in the production of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of red blood cells. Without enough iron, the body can’t effectively transport oxygen, which may lead to:

  • Persistent fatigue or weakness

  • Pale skin

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Headaches

  • Shortness of breath

  • Poor concentration or mental fog

Iron deficiency can result from blood loss (including menstruation), poor absorption, pregnancy, surgery, or chronic illness. While some people benefit from oral iron supplements, others need a more effective or better-tolerated option — which is where iron infusion therapy comes in.

When Is IV Iron Therapy Recommended?

Iron infusion may be considered appropriate when:

  • Bloodwork confirms iron deficiency anemia

  • Oral iron supplements have been ineffective or poorly tolerated

  • Gastrointestinal conditions interfere with iron absorption

  • Fast correction of iron levels is medically necessary

  • There’s ongoing blood loss, such as from heavy periods or surgery recovery

At purelyIV, a CBC and iron panel are required, along with a medical consultation to determine if IV iron therapy is right for you.
